Cue, from Sonate · For residence hall desks

At 2 a.m., the desk knows who is in the building.

Cue is front desk software for residence halls: no more guessing who belongs, who is visiting, or who is still inside.

How Cue runs one night at the desk

  1. A guest at the door.

A visitor, a host upstairs, and a desk worker on their third hour.

  2. One check, one answer.

Go, with the name and the host on screen. No judgment call.

  3. Hold, with its reason.

The limit is Housing’s rule, so the desk never has to argue it.

  4. The record keeps itself.

Every answer is logged as it happens, not rebuilt the next morning.

  5. Who is inside, on one screen.

The overnight guard knows the building before anyone asks.

Why who is inside comes first

Visibility precedes alignment.

A desk cannot hold a policy steady until it can see who is in the building right now. Cue starts there, so the rules your staff agree on stand on a true picture.

How it works

Three steps across the threshold.

  1. 1

A name, a room, an ID, or a guest pass.

The desk types it, or scans the student ID with a scanner that types the number.

  2. 2

    Cue checks the rules.

Housing’s guest limits and the banned list, applied the same way every time.

  3. 3

    One answer, and the record.

Go, Hold, or Stop, with the reason, logged as it happens.

When the Wi‑Fi drops

Designed to keep the desk answering when the Wi‑Fi drops.

  • The desk keeps answering.

Go, Hold, and Stop are worked out on the device, from the roster, the guest limits, the banned list, and the passes it already holds. Even a reload opens.

  • Every change waits its turn.

Sign‑ins, lockouts, loaners, and passes save at the desk first, show as Pending, and send in order once the connection is back. Nothing counts twice.

  • Scanning keeps working.

A hardware scanner types into the box, and the camera reader is saved on the desk’s first visit.

One limit: a change made at another desk, or a new ban from Housing, arrives when the connection returns.

The desk header through a Wi-Fi drop: offline since 9:42 PM with data as of 9:40 PM and 3 changes pending, then back online and sending 3 changes, then up to date.

The desk never stops answering, and the record catches up on its own.
